Senior Service & Installation Engineer
 
Location: Stockport (with UK and international travel - primarily USA)
Salary: £50,000 - £55,000 + Bonus + Pension
Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time
 
I'm recruiting on behalf of a growing engineering manufacturer in Stockport, specialising in the design and build of high-precision inspection and simulation machinery. Due to business growth and an increase in international projects, they are looking to appoint an experienced Senior Service & Installation Engineer to take on a technically advanced, customer-facing and hands-on role.
This is a senior hire within the team - working closely with the Project Lead - and ideal for someone who can combine strong practical engineering ability with leadership, problem-solving and customer interaction.
 
Key Responsibilities - Senior Service & Installation Engineer
Installation, Commissioning & Field Service

Lead the electrical and mechanical installation of equipment across UK and international client sites (primarily the USA).
Carry out full commissioning: software setup, OT/DCS system configuration, camera and sensor calibration, machine alignment and testing.
Perform fault-finding and troubleshooting on electrical, mechanical and software-related issues.
Read and interpret CAD drawings, wiring schematics and engineering diagrams to ensure accurate installations. System Management & Technical Leadership

Act as the a technical point of contact on-site, leading service interventions and managing small project teams where required.
Monitor machine/system performance, complete service audits and ensure long-term reliability.
Identify potential problems, implement corrective actions and suggest system improvements.
Support and mentor junior engineers. Workshop & Practical Assembly Work

When not travelling, support mechanical build, electrical wiring and system assembly in the Stockport facility.
Carry out pre-delivery inspections, testing, upgrades and modifications before dispatch to clients.
Work closely with design, software and control engineering teams to resolve technical issues. Documentation, Compliance & Reporting

Maintain detailed service reports, commissioning records, system configurations and maintenance logs.
Ensure all work adheres to company standards, site-specific health and safety procedures and relevant legislation.
Complete quality assurance checks, risk assessments and client sign-off documentation. Customer Engagement & Collaboration

Build strong relationships with customers, providing clear communication, updates and post-service support.
Explain system functionality, train customer staff on usage and escalate any complex issues to relevant internal teams.
Collaborate with design, software and product development teams to feed back real-world issues and improvements. Person Specification - Senior Service & Installation Engineer
Essential:

Proven track record as a Senior Service & Installation Engineer, Service Engineer or similar.
Strong hands-on electrical and mechanical skills,
17th or 18th Edition Electrical Qualification.
Confident in electrical wiring, panel work, mechanical assembly and fault-finding.
Experience commissioning complex machinery or automation systems (OT/DCS knowledge advantageous).
Able to interpret technical drawings, wiring schematics and CAD layouts.
Full UK driving licence and valid passport.
Able and willing to travel internationally (approx. 3-4 times per year to the USA, typically 1-2 weeks per trip).
No known restrictions that would prevent obtaining a US visa. Desirable:

Experience working with machinery in industries such as robotics, inspection systems, automotive or mechatronics.
Leadership, mentoring or supervisory experience.
CAD literacy or understanding of industrial software/controls. Benefits & Working Structure

Based in Stockport - minimum of 3 days per week on-site when not travelling.
37.5-hour week with flexible start times (core hours by 9:30am).
20 days holiday + bank holidays + birthday off, with option to buy up to 5 additional days.
Annual discretionary bonus.
