We provide outstanding sustainable building solutions (for example, bricks and roof tiles), we have long-lasting partnerships with our customers, and we provide exceptional careers.
Our products and system solutions enable energy-efficient, healthy, climate-friendly, and affordable living.
Why Choose an Engineering Technician Apprenticeship with Wienerberger?
We are committed to developing the best engineers and leaders of the future.
We partner with fantastic training providers and offer an exciting, world class apprenticeship programme, where you will benefit from practical hands-on experience, project work, and training from our regional and national training centres.
We were one of the first companies in the UK to have gained the Engineering Employer Apprenticeships Kitemark (Gold Standard); an accreditation created in partnership from Next Gen Makers and MAKE UK, which we were awarded for going above and beyond for delivering apprenticeships in a safe and welcoming way.
Our Centre of Excellence based at our Sandtoft site in Doncaster offers a space where our apprentices can complete essential training exercises in a workshop environment, with classrooms, a conference space and welfare facilities. Wienerberger has a wide range of mechanical, electrical, and robotic equipment and we will develop you to install and maintain these to the highest standard.
What does the Apprenticeship look like?
Year 1 – you will be based at our partnership training provider on a full-time basis, where you will learn the basics of engineering to achieve a Level 2 qualification. You will then go on to complete a Level 3 BTEC qualification which covers the same subjects in greater depth. The training provider is based in Birmingham and we will support your accomodation costs and travel.
Years 2 to 4 – you will spend time away from home (approx. 45 days, Monday to Friday) to undertake a mixture of residential learning at our national training centres. You will meet and train with key equipment and robotics suppliers, undertake practical learning across our UK manufacturing plants. This multi-site exposure will support you in understanding the equipment you will be responsible for, build key relationships and learn from your colleagues. Wienerberger will cover the cost of your accommodation and travel.
On top of achieving your apprenticeship, you will also gain a number of vocational and academic qualifications which will be fully funded. These include:

  • Level 2 Diploma in Engineering
  • Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering
  • Certified 3-Day First Aid
    What You’ll Get
When you have completed your Apprenticeship, you will be eligible to take on a permanent role with us. We can also provide you with the opportunity to further your technical knowledge by undertaking a degree in engineering.
    Attractive and Flexible Benefits
  • Training and opportunities to grow your career with us
  • Company Pension
  • SIP – ability to become a shareholder via our Share Scheme
  • Life Assurance
  • Flexible benefits offering (including health, wellbeing and money saving opportunities)
    What You’ll Bring
  • GCSEs at Grade 5 or above (equivalent to old grading C+) in Maths, Science, English (Literature or Language) plus 1 other subject.
  • Due to staying away in Birmingham for the first year you will need to be at least 18 years old for safeguarding reasons.
  • Please note that anyone who has attained or who is currently undertaking a level 3 or above qualification in engineering unfortunately cannot be considered
  • Interest in engineering and manufacturing
  • Bags of enthusiasm, keen to learn and experience new things
  • A can-do attitude
  • Willing to travel and live away from home (some of the time during years 2-4)
    What Happens Next?
  • If you are shortlisted, someone from MAKE UK will be in touch to arrange an initial assessment with you.
  • Should you be successful, a member of the Wienerberger Recruitment Team will be in touch to invite you to attend an Assessment Centre (this will be held at our Ewhurst site in Ockley, Surrey)
