Job Title: Field Commissioning Engineer - Robotics & Automation
Location: UK (Home-based with frequent UK & occasional international travel)
Job Type: Permanent
Start Date: ASAP

Overview:

We're working with a high-tech industrial automation specialist delivering cutting-edge robotic and electromechanical systems to clients across aerospace, manufacturing, and advanced engineering sectors. As part of their ongoing expansion, they are seeking a Field Commissioning Engineer to join their Service & Support team.
This hands-on role is perfect for someone with strong electrical, PLC, and diagnostic experience who enjoys travel, solving real-world problems, and providing first-class technical support to clients across the UK and beyond.

Key Responsibilities:

Commission and support bespoke robotic and automation systems at customer sites

Diagnose and resolve electrical, PLC, and software faults in the field

Perform on-site modifications, upgrades, and servicing of automation equipment

Collaborate with software, workshop, and systems teams to resolve technical issues

Deliver excellent customer service and ensure client systems operate at peak performance

Document and report technical issues, fixes, and progress throughout project lifecycle

Provide emergency breakdown and reactive support when required

Support internal system testing and development during quieter service periods

Essential Skills & Experience:

Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills (electrical and software)

Operational experience with industrial robots (e.g. KUKA, FANUC)

PLC experience with Beckhoff, Siemens, or similar (IEC (phone number removed): LAD, ST, FB, SFC)

Familiar with industrial fieldbus protocols (EtherCAT, ProfiNET, CANopen, RS232)

Experience with automation, robotics, or industrial systems

Able to read and interpret electrical/mechanical drawings

Confident communicator in technical English - written and verbal

Full UK driving licence

Willing to travel extensively across the UK and occasionally abroad

Eligible for DBS/security clearance

Desirable:

HNC in Electrical Engineering or equivalent

Electrical apprenticeship or demonstrable hands-on electrical experience

Familiarity with safety systems in automation environments

Experience supporting commissioning processes from installation through to handover
