Overview

We are seeking a Process Control Engineer to join our manufacturing/production department. This role is essential for maintaining PLC operational efficiency and minimising production downtime through proactive continuous improvement, fault diagnosis, and equipment optimisation.

Key Responsibilities and Experience

PLC Equipment Maintenance & Repair

Support the control process by managing the control elements of Inspection, Packaging and Secondary processes. The role takes a leading role in managing and integrating new installations within the facility.
Lead and develop engineers to support the process control facility within the department.
Oversee and support the PLC setup of automated line and packaging machinery.
Work with Maintenance Engineers to ensure line flow is maximised and recurrent control related issues are resolved.
Diagnose the cause of any PLC faults or breakdown which cannot be solved by the Shift Engineer and take necessary action to resolve.
Assist in planning and organising plants CAPEX within agreed parameters, justifying the introduction of new equipment and systems to improve productivity.
Support all process control and PLC activities within facility.
Developing engineers to undertake basic process control tasks leading to a more efficient facility with less downtime.
Supporting Factory Capital Projects so they are delivered on time and to Plan, development of cost saving initiatives and continuous improvement
Working with ISO 9001/HARA/BRC
Operate, maintain, diagnose faults, and repair PLC faults
Strong electrical & PLC troubleshooting abilities
Familiarity with cold end work areas and equipment including inspection, bottle transportation, and packaging systems.
Identify electrical faults and breakdowns within the engineering department.
Modify and adjust PLC's, inspection, and packaging equipment to maintain efficient operations and minimise downtime.
Respond promptly to equipment failures to ensure minimal production impact.
Provide technical support during job changes to minimise changeover downtime.
Collaborate with production teams to optimise equipment performance and troubleshoot operational issues.
This position requires a commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement in all aspects of work performance.

Team Leadership & Communication

Communicate effectively with all department employees to maintain a well-informed and cohesive team.
Cover Shift responsibilities when required, demonstrating leadership and decision-making capabilities.
Working as a team, share knowledge and provide technical guidance to team members.

Health, Safety & Compliance

Manufacturing environment with exposure to industrial equipment and machinery
Shift work including potential out-of-hours coverage.
Work to Company Health and Safety Procedures to ensure a safe working environment for all personnel.
Ensure all maintenance activities comply with regulatory requirements and company policies.

Experience & Qualifications

Electrical or PLC Engineering qualifications (Minimum NVQ Lv3 or equivalent)
PLC Experience working in a automated manufacturing or production environment.
Proficiency in electronic communication methods and systems SAP, WMS or similar
Competency in Microsoft Office Suite applications
PLC experience - Siemens, Allen Bradley preferred
Strong written communication abilities for documentation and reporting
Excellent verbal communication skills for team interaction and technical discussions
