Automation Sales Engineer

Murray Recruitment are recruiting an Applications Sales Engineer for our client based in Livingston.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced technical sales professional to play a key role in driving business growth within the industrial automation sector. With a focus on key industries including whisky, renewables, and energy, this position will be instrumental in securing new projects, managing client relationships, and supporting technical bid development.

Role Overview

The Applications Sales Engineer will be responsible for leading proposal and tender activities, managing key accounts and suppliers, and driving business development across targeted industries. The successful candidate will work closely with internal engineering and commercial teams to develop tailored automation and control solutions, while actively engaging in market research and client acquisition.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the preparation of technical and commercial proposals for automation and control system projects.

  • Analyse customer specifications to develop bespoke solutions in collaboration with engineering teams.

  • Track sales activities and opportunities using CRM tools and digital platforms (for e.g. Monday . com .)

  • Identify new business opportunities in automation, with a focus on whisky, renewable energy, and broader manufacturing sectors.

  • Maintain strong relationships with key suppliers including Rockwell, Siemens, and AVEVA.

  • Represent the business at trade shows, exhibitions, and networking events to promote offerings and generate leads.

  • Negotiate supplier agreements and pricing to support project delivery and profitability.

    Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience in technical sales, applications engineering, or business development within industrial automation or control systems.

  • A strong understanding of PLC, SCADA, and related automation technologies is desirable; however, full training will be provided, and a willingness to learn is essential.

  • Skilled in tendering and proposal development, including cost estimation and bid management.

  • Proficient in using CRM systems and Microsoft Office applications.

  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with clients, suppliers, and internal teams.
