Senior Structural Engineer (up to Associate-Level)
Marple, Greater Manchester
£45,000 - £65,000+ DOE | Hybrid Working Available

We're working with a well-regarded structural engineering consultancy seeking to appoint an experienced Senior Structural Engineer-or potentially someone at Associate level-to join their team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a capable and confident Senior structural engineer looking for a role that offers autonomy, flexibility, and a chance to work across a diverse range of projects. Whether you're a senior engineer looking to step into a broader role, or already operating at associate level, this position offers a clear pathway for progression and real ownership over your work.

The business operates with a high level of trust and flexibility. There's no micromanagement-just an expectation that work is delivered to a high standard, on time, and with a positive, solutions-focused approach. Most projects are relatively local to the practice, with occasional travel further afield and very infrequent overnight stays. Hybrid working is standard, with most of the team spending two to three days in the office.

While this is not a survey-focused role, you'll be expected to assist with survey work where needed. Typically, the workload is usually split between design and inspection work, but that split is flexible depending on your experience and preferences.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead the structural design and analysis of a range of building projects using a variety of materials including steel, concrete, timber, and masonry
Produce and review structural calculations, technical reports, and construction drawings
Coordinate with architects, contractors, surveyors, and other consultants to deliver coordinated design solutions
Attend site visits and carry out structural surveys, inspections, and assessments
Oversee project delivery from concept to completion, including planning and building regulations submissions
Support and mentor junior engineers and technicians as appropriate
Ensure that project deadlines, budgets, and quality expectations are consistently met
Requirements:

Minimum 8 years' experience in structural engineering
Chartered or working towards chartered status with IStructE or ICE
Strong working knowledge of relevant design codes and standards
Proficiency in structural design software (e.g., Tekla TSD, TEDDS, Robot, Revit, AutoCAD)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Comfortable managing multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment
Confident working independently and liaising directly with clients and collaborators
A broad understanding of different building types and structural systems
The role would suit someone with a practical, hands-on approach who enjoys variety and wants to work in a collaborative, supportive environment. You'll be given the freedom to get on with your work, trusted to make decisions, and supported to grow professionally.

If you're a strong senior engineer-or associate-level-with the technical expertise and communication skills to thrive in a dynamic consultancy environment, we'd love to hear from you.

Negotiating Your Robotics Job Offer: Equity, Bonuses & Perks Explained

How to Secure a Compensation Package That Reflects Your Cutting-Edge Role in the UK’s Robotics Revolution Introduction Robotics has emerged as one of the most transformational fields in modern technology, creating autonomous systems that span agriculture, manufacturing, logistics, healthcare, and more. As a mid‑senior robotics professional—whether you’re focused on mechanical design, controls engineering, machine vision, or AI-driven automation—you hold a pivotal position in shaping the intelligent machines that are redefining entire industries. With stakes so high, many organisations compete vigorously for top-tier talent, going beyond standard salaries to offer equity, bonuses, and perks like flexible work arrangements and advanced R&D support. Yet, a surprising number of candidates zero in only on base pay when assessing a new role. By neglecting other compensation levers, you risk leaving substantial value on the table—particularly in the fast-evolving, high-impact realm of robotics. This guide explores the essential elements of negotiating a robotics job offer in the UK. We’ll examine how equity fits into a robotics-focused company, how performance-based bonuses can reward key project or product milestones, and which perks matter most when you’re developing or deploying advanced robotic solutions. Equipped with these insights, you can craft a deal that reflects your professional impact and sets you up for success in this dynamic sector.

Robotics Jobs in the Public Sector: Transforming Defence, Healthcare, and Beyond

Robotics has long been a fixture of science fiction, but in recent years, it has evolved into a tangible force driving real-world innovation. In the UK, robots and automated systems now assist in delicate hospital surgeries, manage defence logistics, maintain critical infrastructure, and even help deliver public services. These applications underscore robotics’ growing importance within the public sector, where government bodies—including the National Health Service (NHS), the Ministry of Defence (MOD), and various research councils—are eager to harness this technology’s potential. Consequently, robotics jobs in the UK public sector are on the rise, offering positions that blend high-impact research, applied engineering, and direct societal benefit. Working on a surgical robot that saves a life, automating manufacturing processes for defence equipment, or deploying unmanned vehicles for emergency services—these roles encompass both cutting-edge innovation and meaningful public service. If you’re a robotics professional seeking an environment with long-term stability, robust funding, and the opportunity to shape future-proof solutions, the public sector is rife with potential. In this comprehensive guide, we’ll explore why robotics matters to government agencies, highlight key players—such as the NHS, MOD, and Government Digital Service (GDS)—outline typical job roles, provide insight into required skills, and deliver practical advice for landing a robotics job in the UK public sector. By the end, you’ll have a clear roadmap for leveraging your technical acumen in robotics to bolster public services, national security, healthcare advancements, and more.
