System Engineer (DCS & Safety)
Location: Runcorn, Cheshire (with hybrid working)
Employment Type: Permanent
Salary: £45,000 per annum + £515 monthly car allowance (£6,180 per annum) + benefits

We’re seeking a skilled and motivated System Engineer (DCS & Safety) to join our team in Runcorn. This is a great opportunity for someone with a strong background in industrial automation, particularly in the oil & gas, petrochemical, or process industries.

The Role
As a System Engineer, you’ll support the full project lifecycle—from post-sales handover through to final project sign-off. You’ll serve as the technical focal point, delivering high-quality systems and working closely with internal teams, suppliers, and customers.

Key Responsibilities:

Configure DCS software based on user requirements and control philosophies

Develop process control logic for continuous and batch operations

Conduct alarm rationalisation in line with EEMUA 191 standards

Perform SIL classification and SIF calculations

Design and implement functional block programming and safety logic

Modify and assess existing safety systems

Lead or support internal testing, FATs, and SATs

Manage system transitions to site, installation, commissioning, and handover

Ensure all project documentation is completed and compliant

Monitor quality throughout the project lifecycle

What We’re Looking For:

Experience in a similar role within industrial automation or process industries

HNC or higher in engineering or a related field

TUV Functional Safety certification is desirable, or strong knowledge of safety lifecycle

Working knowledge of ISO management systems (e.g., ISO9001, ISO14001)

Valid UK driving licence

Willingness to travel across the UK and offshore when required

A motivated team player with excellent communication skills

Offshore certification is a plus (training can be provided)
