Applications Engineer

Applications Engineer / Automation Engineer / PLC Engineer required by a UK engineering company operating across industrial automation. This is a UK-wide role with a remote base and regular travel to customer sites, supporting complex automation projects across multiple industries.

The successful Applications Engineer will be responsible for PLC programming (Siemens or Rockwell/Allen-Bradley), commissioning variable speed drives, and delivering cloud control solutions. A background in motion control or rotating machinery will be particularly valued.

Role Program and commission PLCs for automation projects, focusing on winding/motion control

Set up and support drives, control panels, and motor systems

Understand customer needs and deliver tailored control solutions

Assist with cloud integration, remote monitoring, and data-driven automation

Provide technical support on-site and remotely

Requirements Experience as an Applications, PLC, or Automation Engineer

Proficient in PLC programming (Siemens, Rockwell, etc.)

Knowledge of winding, motion control, or rotating equipment

Strong understanding of drives, motors, and control panels

Familiar with cloud platforms, IIoT, or digital monitoring

Engineering qualification (HNC/HND/BEng or similar)

Willing to travel UK-wide (50%)
