Location: London

Rate: £45–£55 per hour | Outside IR35

If you're a PLC Engineer, Controls Engineer, Automation Engineer, EICA Engineer or Control Systems Engineer with strong water industry experience, this could be an excellent opportunity to get involved in a technically interesting project in Leicester.

We're looking for an experienced controls professional who can bring hands-on technical knowledge across PLC/SCADA, control systems, instrumentation and electrical engineering, supporting the delivery of a major water industry project.

With a rate of £45–£55 per hour Outside IR35 and an initial 6-month contract with a strong likelihood of extension, this is well suited to an experienced contractor coming towards the end of a project or looking for their next challenge.

The role

You'll be working as part of a multidisciplinary engineering and project team, providing technical input across the control, automation, instrumentation and electrical elements of the project.

Your responsibilities are likely to include:

Supporting the design and delivery of PLC and control system solutions.

Providing technical input into automation, controls and EICA engineering activities.

Reviewing and developing control philosophies, functional specifications and technical documentation.

Working with PLC/SCADA systems, instrumentation and associated control equipment.

Reviewing electrical, instrumentation and control drawings and identifying interfaces or potential issues.

Supporting PLC software development, modification and testing where required.

Working with engineers, contractors, suppliers and site teams to resolve technical and integration issues.

Supporting FAT, SAT, testing, commissioning and site activities.

Ensuring control and instrumentation requirements are properly coordinated throughout project delivery.

Troubleshooting control, automation and instrumentation issues and providing practical engineering solutions.

Supporting project delivery from design through to installation, testing, commissioning and handover.

Ensuring engineering activities meet the required water industry, quality, safety and technical standards.

Working closely with other disciplines including electrical, mechanical, process and project engineering.

Automation Engineer

EICA Engineer

EC&I Engineer

Software Engineer – PLC / SCADA

Instrumentation & Control Engineer

You'll ideally have:

Water industry experience – essential

Strong experience with PLC / control systems / automation

Experience with PLC software and control system engineering

Knowledge of SCADA, HMI and industrial control systems

Understanding of instrumentation and electrical systems

Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications and engineering documentation

Experience supporting FAT, SAT, testing and commissioning

Experience working within multidisciplinary project teams

Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills

A practical approach to engineering and project delivery
