Working in the gas sector as a EC&I Engineer expert offers a number of unique and rewarding benefits such as being technically challenged and exposure to functional safety and ATEX. As our Senior EC&I Engineer, you'll be a technical leader and go-to expert on the delivery of automated systems and control solutions. You'll work across a wide range of engineering tasks and technologies.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Leading the electrical, instrumentation and control design for bespoke gas systems

  • Specifying and selecting instrumentation, valves, gas analysers, ATEX-rated equipment, and safety devices

  • Developing PLC/HMI/SCADA systems—ideally using Siemens TIA Portal or Ignition SCADA

  • Driving commissioning activities including FAT, SAT, and site-based handover alongside clients and project teams

  • Ensuring compliance with industry standards and safety regulations: IEC, BS EN, ATEX, SIL, DSEAR

  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams—mechanical, process, safety and software—to deliver fully integrated systems

    Experience required:

  • Proven track record in industrial automation and process control—ideally in gas, chemical, or high-integrity environments:

  • Strong knowledge of electrical system design and control panel architecture

  • Deep understanding of functional safety, SIL, ATEX/DSEAR, and related standards

  • Confident communicator—able to lead technical discussions with clients, suppliers and internal teams

  • Experience supporting system commissioning, integration, and documentation in regulated or high-risk sectors
