About the Company

TCS Consulting are recruiting on behalf of a leading UK-based automation and engineering solutions provider that designs and builds bespoke automation systems for industries including medical, oil & gas, food, and aerospace.

Due to continued growth and increased demand for service and support, our client is seeking a skilled and proactive Service & Controls Engineer to join their expanding engineering team.

The Role

This is a varied and hands-on position combining field-based service work with in-house controls and commissioning projects. The successful candidate will support, maintain, and develop advanced automation systems across a range of applications, ensuring reliability, performance, and customer satisfaction.

Core Responsibilities

Provide on-site and remote technical support for customer breakdowns and service contracts.

Perform diagnostics, fault-finding, and repairs on control systems, robotics, and automation equipment.

Support in-house project work, including PLC programming, commissioning, and electrical system integration.

Travel to customer sites across the UK and occasionally overseas (Full UK driving licence required).

Participate in an on-call rota to provide remote and emergency support (typically one week on, approximately biweekly).

On-Call Allowance: Paid at £X per hour for each hour on call outside normal working hours.

Call-Out Work: Paid at your standard hourly rate + 25% premium when attending site outside normal hours.

All travel time for call-outs is paid in full.

Working Hours

Standard office hours are flexible — typically 8:00am–4:00pm or 9:00am–5:00pm, Monday to Friday.
The company promotes a flexible “give-and-take” approach: when projects require extra commitment, this is balanced with time off when workloads permit.
