About the Opportunity:

NRL is excited to be recruiting an experienced Control Systems Test Engineer to join one of our prestigious clients in Cumbria. This is an outstanding opportunity to work on a technically challenging, high-profile project within the nuclear sector. What You’ll Be Doing:

• Lead the testing of complex control systems and embedded technologies, ensuring performance and reliability under rigorous conditions.

• Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams—including design, software, and electrical—to refine testing strategies and elevate system quality.

• Generate comprehensive test documentation, including detailed reports, logs, and corrective action summaries.

• Maintain strict adherence to industry standards and internal safety protocols throughout all testing activities.

• Utilise advanced testing tools such as oscilloscopes, data acquisition systems, and simulation software to validate system performance.

• Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues in PLCs, HMI/SCADA systems, and communication protocols (Modbus, Profibus).

• Play a key role in optimising control systems in areas such as motor/drive systems, electrical distribution panels, or cyber/network systems.

What You Could Have:

• A Bachelor’s degree in Control Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.

• Solid experience (minimum of [X] years) in a control systems testing role within a complex engineering environment.

• Proven expertise in control and embedded systems, as well as industrial automation platforms.

• Hands-on experience with test equipment including oscilloscopes, multi meters, and simulation software.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to communicate technical insights clearly to diverse stakeholders.

• A self-motivated, detail-oriented approach with excellent organisational skills to meet project milestones.

Desirable:

• Experience with PLC/HMI & SCADA programming and configuration.

• Familiarity with motor/drive systems, electrical panels, or cyber-secure system enclosures.

• Working knowledge of scripting or automation languages.

• Previous exposure to the Sellafield Ltd Management System.

• Membership in a relevant professional body (e.g., IET).
