About the Company

Our client is a well-established UK-based automation specialist headquartered in Cambridgeshire, delivering bespoke engineering solutions to a wide range of UK and international manufacturing businesses—primarily within the FMCG, food & beverage, refrigeration, and general manufacturing sectors. They design, manufacture, and install high-quality industrial control panels and advanced automation systems, integrating cutting-edge technologies such as PLC, HMI, and SCADA to streamline production processes. With the capability to deliver full end-to-end solutions from design through to commissioning and support—they are known for their engineering excellence, innovation, and customer-first approach.

The Role

As an Electrical Design Engineer, you’ll work closely with the business owner to design bespoke automation machinery as the company embark on a period of significant growth with full order books. This is the start of their exciting expansion plans and this person will play a key role in the future of the company.

Key Responsibilities

  • Understand and interpret customer/process requirements.

  • Prepare functional design specifications and user manuals.

  • Design electrical systems using EPLAN ProPanel, including 3D layout drawings.

  • Create accurate Bills of Materials (BoMs) for procurement and documentation.

  • Collaborate with design and controls engineers to meet overall system needs.

  • Support commissioning processes (FAT & SAT).

  • Ensure compliance with safety directives and technical standards.

  • Occasionally travel for customer meetings and site support.

  • Participate in design reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.

    Key Skills, Qualifications & Experience

  • Proficient in EPLAN ProPanel or similar electrical design software.

  • Familiar with SISTEMA and safety-related system design.

  • Experieced in Control Panel design

  • Experience in special-purpose machinery, automation, robotics, conveyor and vision systems.

  • Strong communicator with excellent time management skills.

  • Knowledge of UKCA/CE compliance and technical file creation.

  • Degree or HNC/HND/BTECt in Electrical Engineering.

  • Experienced in electrical design within automation or manufacturing.
