Embedded Robotics Engineer

Location Knutsford Cheshire

Salary 65k to 75k

Monday to Friday

Job purpose: To provide engineering design and support functions, and to be responsible for small projects or sub-sections of larger projects under instruction of more senior engineers.

Key Responsibilities: (Key Tasks)

Manage design projects from initial concept/enquiry through detailed design to manufacturing handover.

Provide design input on projects, using the technical competencies listed below.

Generation of ideas for developments and new products.

Be responsible for small projects, or sub-sections of larger products.Produce engineering designs, specifications and documentation to ISO 9001.

Assist in the preparation of operating and maintenance manuals.

Offsite engineering support for new products.

Assist sales and marketing in the preparation of quotes and proposals.

Provide customer support.

Assist in the training of customer operating personnel.

Provide technical support to the production, logistics and integration departments.

Work within the requirements of company procedures and national/international guidelines.

Work within the timescales and budgets set by the company.

Instruct, train and mentor subordinate engineering staff.

Other activities as instructed by the Engineering Manager.

Accountabilities: (Deliverables)

  • Ensure the suitability of the engineering aspects of company products for their function.

  • Prompt replies to production, logistical and technical support questions.

  • Provide design input on all projects as required, within the timescales set by the company.

    Technical Competencies (essential):

  • High level language programming in C, C++ and C#.

  • Real time Programming.

  • Multi-Threaded and Multi-Process Programming.

  • Microcontroller programming.

  • Control systems design.

  • Communication systems and protocols (RS232, RS485, SPI, I²C, Ethernet, etc.).

  • PCB breadboard prototyping using soldering iron and handtools.

  • Design of analogue and digital electronic circuits.

  • PCB design using Altium or equivalent.

  • Completing and checking designs and documentation.

    Technical Competencies (desirable):

  • Hardware Description Language programming in VHDL, Verilog or similar.

  • MISRA or SIL Compliant programming structure.

  • Operating systems configuration, QNX/Windows.

  • Conversant with Microsoft Visual Studio, Eclipse, MPLAB, Code Warrior, Subversion.

  • FPGA programming.

  • Development and design of robotic control system architectures.

  • Development and design of HMI and GUI systems.

  • Electric motor types, designs and specification.Industrial sensors and equipment.

  • Fibre optic multiplexers and ancillaries.

  • PCB manufacturing and standards.

  • Design of motor control electronic circuits.

  • Inspection, testing and certification requirements.

  • Approving designs and documentation.
