Multiskilled Maintenance Engineer
Location: Sunderland
Contract Type: Permanent
Hours: Rotating 3-Shift Pattern
Salary and Shift Premiums
Base Salary: £43,232.28 per annum (based on 37 hours/week)
Shift Pattern:
Day Shift: Mon–Thurs 07:00–15:10; Fri 07:00–15:05
Late Shift: Mon–Thurs 15:05–23:15; Fri 15:05–23:10
Night Shift: Sun 22:00–07:05+; Mon–Thurs 23:10–07:05+
Shift Allowances:
Late Shift Premium: +16%
Night Shift Premium: +39%
Estimated Average Annual Salary Including Rotating Shifts:
Approx. £51,723.70 (calculated based on equal rotation of all three shifts)
Overtime is available and paid additionally:
1.33x for Day Shift, 1.5x for Late/Night Shifts
Job Purpose
To provide planned and reactive maintenance for equipment and facilities to ensure optimal production uptime and support safety and operational excellence within a manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance and emergency repairs on plant equipment and facilities
  • Diagnose and rectify mechanical and electrical faults
  • Conduct inspections and maintain safety systems (e.g., fire alarms, Estop systems)
  • Maintain accurate documentation for all maintenance work
  • Collaborate with external contractors and suppliers
  • Ensure machinery compliance with safety standards
  • Participate in the preventive maintenance program and related software tools
  • Provide technical feedback to leadership on maintenance effectiveness
  • Support overtime as needed to ensure production continuity
    Required Qualifications & Experience
  • Essential:
    • NVQ Level 3 in Maintenance/Engineering (or equivalent)
    • Proven experience in a mechanical and electrical maintenance role
    • Good communication and problem-solving skills
  • Desirable:
    • IOSH certification
    • Familiarity with Siemens S7 PLCs and ABB Robotics
    • Experience in a chemical process environment

  • Adhere to company Health & Safety policies and promote a safety-first culture
  • Participate in emergency response protocols
  • Report incidents, near misses, and unsafe practices
  • Support departmental 5S and continuous improvement initiatives
