Part of the Northern Industries Group, Steelway Ltd have been trading for almost 100 years and are experts in our field. We design and manufacture secondary/access metalwork - metal flooring, walkways, staircases, platforms, ladders, fire escapes, handrails, balustrades, heritage & architectural metalwork, along with general fabrications in mild steel, stainless steel, and GRP.

As a company, we continue to invest in our manufacturing facilities, including the latest plant, equipment, and automation such as robotic welding systems, automatic laser cutting, and CAD/CAM technology.

About the role

We are looking to appoint an experienced Senior CAD Designer to join our design team in Wolverhampton. This is a fantastic opportunity for a skilled designer to play a key role in producing high-quality drawings and models for a range of bespoke steelwork projects including staircases, handrails and platforms.

Reporting to the Design Office Manager, you will be responsible for producing design layouts, general arrangements and complete manufacturing drawings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Utilise previous industry experience & knowledge to produce detailed fabrication drawings and 3D models using AutoCAD or Autodesk Inventor.

  • Collaborate closely with the project team, client, architect & structural engineers to gather critical information & specifications.

  • Attend internal & external project design meetings offering valuable input to ongoing challenges.

  • Ensure all designs comply with project specifications, tolerances, & quality standards.

  • Maintain accurate files & records.

  • Support junior members of the team & contribute to the continuous improvement of design processes.

    Key Skills & Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role & industry (primary/secondary steelwork design & fabrication)

  • Advanced user of AutoCAD & Autodesk Inventor or SolidWorks.

  • Experience in producing accurate drawings to enable effective construction.

  • Comprehensive understanding of technical drawings & specifications.

  • IT Proficient with Microsoft Office

  • Excellent communication & presentation skills.

  • Knowledge of open-mesh flooring & handrails would be advantageous.

  • Knowledge of Revit & BIM models would be advantageous.

  • Able to work full time hours at our design office, 5 days per week.
