Our client is a growing leader in machine vision and industrial automation solutions, delivering advanced inspection, measurement, and control systems across a wide range of sectors. Their engineering team specialises in designing and delivering bespoke camera-based systems—from small retro-fit solutions to full-scale industrial automation machinery.

The Role

As a Controls & Electrical Design Engineer, you will play a key part in the design, programming, and integration of automation control systems. You’ll use AutoCAD Electrical to create detailed panel and schematic designs, and support projects throughout their full lifecycle—from specification and programming to commissioning and maintenance.

You will work closely with a multidisciplinary engineering team and play an active role in installations both in the UK and overseas.

Key Responsibilities

Full lifecycle PLC and controls programming for automation systems

Designing and specifying control, safety, and electrical components

Developing control system architecture, technical specs, and process flow diagrams

Creating detailed AutoCAD Electrical designs (layout diagrams, schematics, terminal/wiring plans)

Supporting system integration and commissioning on-site

Assisting in electrical fitting and wiring during builds

Performing testing and troubleshooting during manufacturing

Providing technical support and maintenance for installed systems

Skills & Experience Required

Essential:

3+ years of hands-on experience with PLC/HMI programming (Allen Bradley and/or Siemens preferred)

Strong knowledge of electrical control gear and automation communication protocols (e.g., Profinet, Profibus, Ethernet/IP, OPC, IO-Link)

Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical or similar software (minimum 3 years)

Experience designing electrical panels to EU standards

Logical, structured problem-solving approach

Excellent communication and teamwork skills

Organised and detail-oriented with the ability to meet deadlines

Desirable:

Machinery safety experience or training

Willingness to travel internationally when required
