We are working with an established System Integrator company based in Yorkshire, UK.

They are recruiting for a Senior Controls Engineer to join their team. In return for a salary in the region £55.000 - £65.000 along with excellent employment benefits.

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior ICA (Instrumentation, Control, and Automation) Engineer to join a dynamic team.

The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in PLC software and hardware, SCADA systems, telemetry, motor control centres, control panels, and instrumentation.

The Senior ICA Engineer will play a key role in delivering high-quality automation solutions, ensuring optimal performance across a variety of industrial projects.

The role involves a mix of office-based work, site visits, and project-related activities across the UK, with flexible working arrangements including the possibility of home working.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • PLC Software and Hardware: Design, configure, and troubleshoot PLC systems for industrial automation applications. Strong knowledge of various PLC brands and platforms (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Schneider Electric).

  • SCADA Systems: Design, configure, and support SCADA systems for real-time monitoring and control. Ensure seamless integration with PLCs and other control systems.

  • Telemetry Systems: Implement and support telemetry systems for remote data transmission and control. Ensure systems are robust, secure, and reliable.

  • Motor Control Centres: Design, install, and maintain motor control centres (MCCs), ensuring operational efficiency and compliance with industry standards.

  • Control Panels: Design, build, and commission control panels for various industrial applications. Collaborate with the panel design team to ensure compliance with electrical standards and specifications.

  • Instrumentation: Integrate and maintain various types of instrumentation used for process monitoring, control, and optimization.

  • Process Control Knowledge: Develop and implement control strategies, ensuring that process control systems are optimised for safety, efficiency, and reliability.

  • Project Management: Lead projects and provide technical guidance to junior engineers. Assist with project planning, scheduling, and coordination of site activities.

  • Customer Interaction: Liaise with clients to understand their requirements, provide technical advice, and ensure high-quality delivery of projects.

  • Compliance and Standards: Ensure all systems and installations meet regulatory and safety standards.

    Requirements:

  • PLC Software and Hardware: Proven experience with various PLC systems (Siemens, Rockwell, Schneider, etc.), including configuration, programming, and troubleshooting.

  • SCADA Systems: Hands-on experience in SCADA software platforms (e.g., Wonderware, iFIX, WinCC, etc.).

  • Telemetry Systems: Experience with telemetry systems, including setup, configuration, and maintenance for remote data acquisition and control.

  • Motor Control Centres & Control Panels: Expertise in MCC design, installation, and commissioning. Strong understanding of electrical control panel construction and standards.

  • Instrumentation: Knowledge of instrumentation types (e.g., pressure, temperature, flow, level) and how to interface these devices into control systems.

  • Process Control: A solid understanding of process control principles and the ability to design and optimise control strategies for industrial processes.

  • Problem Solving: Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex control system issues both in the office and on-site.

  • Project Delivery: Experience in managing and delivering projects from concept through to completion.

  • Driving Licence: A full, clean UK driving licence is required for site visits across the UK.

    Desirable Requirements:

  • Electrical Qualifications: The candidate must hold relevant electrical qualifications (e.g., HNC/HND or degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field).

  • Experience: The ideal candidate will have at least 5-10 years of experience in a similar role, demonstrating technical proficiency in PLCs, SCADA systems, instrumentation, and process control.

  • Personal Attributes: Strong communication skills, customer-focused approach, proactive, self-motivated, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
