Senior Mechanical Design Engineer - Industrial Recycling Technology

Location: Wrexham (On-site) transitioning to Daresbury (Hybrid)
Salary: £70,000 - £85,000

About Company/Role

Join a pioneering UK start-up transforming waste into raw materials for new products. They are seeking a talented Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to initially lead the design and development of a high-pressure safety cabinet - a critical first step in bringing the breakthrough technology to market. This is a hands-on role where you will work closely with the engineering team to develop high-pressure systems that will transform the recycling industry.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop mechanical systems for high-pressure equipment

  • Create detailed CAD models and engineering drawings

  • Lead projects from concept through to operational validation

  • Collaborate on safety-critical systems design

  • Work with manufacturing teams and subcontractors

  • Conduct testing and performance analysis

    What We're Looking For

    Essential:

  • Strong CAD experience (SolidWorks, NX, or similar)

  • Experience with high-pressure systems, fluid management, or wastewater treatment

  • Proven track record in mechanical design and project delivery

  • Problem-solving mindset with hands-on approach

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills

    Desirable:

  • Experience with safety-critical system design

  • Knowledge of industrial automation or processing equipment

  • Background in startup or fast-paced environments

  • Understanding of manufacturing processes

    Important: This role requires on-site presence in Wrexham initially to enable close collaboration with the engineering team during the critical development phase. Once the safety cabinet is successfully developed, the role will transition to the Daresbury R&D centre with hybrid working options. Flexible start/finish times available to accommodate commuting.
