A specialist highways subcontractor is seeking an experienced Site Engineer to support delivery on a key package of works as part of a major infrastructure scheme in Bridgwater. This is a long-term freelance opportunity on a complex and high-profile project.

Location: Bridgwater, Somerset
Duration: 24 Months
Rate: £350–£400 (Outside IR35)
Start Date: ASAP

The Role:
Working as part of a delivery team for a well-established highways subcontractor, you will take a lead on setting out and site engineering duties across multiple work fronts. This will include technical support, QA, and coordination of works across a busy construction site environment.

Key Responsibilities:



Setting out for highways elements including drainage, kerbing, surfacing, and ducting

*

Maintaining and managing QA documentation and as-built records

*

Liaising with site supervisors, plant operators, and subcontractors

*

Ensuring works are delivered to programme and specification

*

Supporting the Site Agent and Project Manager with progress updates and technical input

Requirements:

*

Prior experience working for a highways subcontractor or civils contractor

*

Strong setting out skills using GPS/robotic instruments (e.g., Leica/Trimble)

*

CSCS Card (Essential)

*

SSSTS or SMSTS (Preferred)

*

Civil Engineering qualification or equivalent industry experience
