ROLE OVERVIEW

As an Application Engineer, you will act as a key technical resource for both the sales team and customers. The role is central to supporting the sales process by offering expert guidance, identifying effective solutions, and ensuring a smooth customer experience from enquiry through to delivery. Balancing both technical advisor and product advocate responsibilities, you will help customers achieve the best outcomes while building lasting professional relationships.

The position may involve occasional travel to customer sites, partner locations, and exhibitions within the UK and abroad. You will also be expected to operate in line with company values, mission, and professional standards at all times.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and maintain strong professional relationships with key accounts.

  • Identify customer needs and opportunities, recommending tailored technical solutions.

  • Work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners to achieve defined sales and technical goals.

  • Provide technical expertise throughout the sales cycle in partnership with sales colleagues.

  • Deliver on-site service and technical support, ensuring solutions align with customer requirements.

  • Conduct demonstrations and system tests at customer sites and within in-house facilities.

  • Support company involvement in industry exhibitions through preparation, execution, and follow-up.

  • Liaise with engineering teams for drawings, technical documentation, and project support.

  • Ensure compliance with relevant codes of practice, quality standards, and specifications.

  • Produce accurate quotations aligned with customer specifications and best practices.

  • Maintain up-to-date customer information in the CRM system.

  • Deliver technical training sessions to colleagues, new starters, and customers.

  • Respond to customer queries (phone/email) covering technical support, pricing, and logistics.

  • Resolve issues effectively while upholding company values and customer satisfaction.

    KEY SKILLS & BEHAVIOURS

  • Strong technical knowledge, ideally within material handling, automation, or vacuum technology.

  • Understanding of relevant industry regulations and performance standards.

  • Ability to manage a diverse and dynamic workload.

  • Excellent communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills.

  • Confident working in a fast-paced environment with analytical and creative thinking.

  • Sales and marketing awareness to support business development.

  • Professional and tactful approach to handling customer concerns.

  • Driven, collaborative, and solution-focused mindset.

  • Ideally 3+ years’ experience in an Application Engineer or comparable technical role.

  • Relevant technical diploma or equivalent qualification.

  • Familiarity with CRM systems (Salesforce desirable)
