Control & Systems Engineer

£48,000 – £58,000 DOE
Monday – Friday | 8:00am – 4:00pm | 40 hours
We’re recruiting for an experienced Control & Systems Engineer to join the engineering team of a well-established, global manufacturing business based in Burton-on-Trent.
This is a great opportunity for someone with a strong background in industrial automation, PLCs and control systems who enjoys a mix of hands-on engineering, software development, fault finding and project work.
You’ll become a key technical specialist within the site, working on a range of automation, controls and engineering improvement projects – taking projects from initial concept and specification through to design, programming, implementation and commissioning.
What you’ll be doing
Developing, modifying and fault finding PLC and control systems
Working extensively with Siemens S7 – Simatic Manager and TIA Portal
Supporting SCADA systems, PLC interfaces and industrial software integration
Programming and fault finding AC and DC drives
Delivering automation and control projects from concept through to completion
Working hands-on with production machinery, upgrades and new installations
Identifying opportunities to improve reliability, efficiency and performance
Producing designs, software and technical documentation
Working alongside Engineering, Production, Quality, R&D, HSE and IT teams
Liaising with external suppliers and contractors
Providing technical guidance and sharing knowledge with other engineers What we’re looking for
You’ll ideally have a HNC/HND, Degree or equivalent qualification in Controls, Automation, Industrial Software or a related engineering discipline, alongside strong practical experience within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
You’ll need strong knowledge of:
Siemens S7
TIA Portal
Simatic Manager
SCADA systems
PLC programming and fault finding
Industrial automation and control systems
AC & DC drives
SQL / Access databases Experience with AutoCAD and data analysis would also be beneficial, while knowledge of WinCC Professional or WinCC Advanced would be a definite advantage.
The role will suit someone who is equally comfortable on the factory floor working directly with machinery as they are developing software or designing systems at a desk.
Some travel to other UK sites will be required, with occasional international travel possible.
