Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Engineering Project Manager to lead the delivery of complex automation projects from concept through to customer handover. This role involves taking the design of a process, facility, or piece of plant and equipment, and managing the full lifecycle including design development, build, installation, commissioning, and final acceptance.

The successful candidate will have a strong technical background as a Mechanical, Electrical, or Controls & Automation Engineer, with proven experience delivering automation projects, ideally involving automated conveyance systems and robotics.

Key Responsibilities:

* Determine customer delivery requirements and produce Functional Design Specifications (FDS).

* Identify all relevant stakeholders and establish the project delivery team.

* Identify, recruit, or deploy additional resources as required.

* Develop and manage detailed project delivery plans, including critical path analysis.

* Provide regular project updates using the NPDI system and attend weekly project review meetings.

* Demonstrate a clear understanding of Value for Money (VFM) principles and maintain a proven track record of delivering VFM on projects.

* Manage supplier selection through structured procurement processes to ensure VFM.

* Oversee order placement and manage agreed delivery dates in line with SQCDPE requirements.

* Manage and oversee suppliers or in-house teams to ensure manufacturing meets agreed standards and timescales.

* Lead installation and commissioning activities, providing progress updates and identifying risks to programme delivery.

* Define customer acceptance criteria and produce structured launch and handover plans.

* Drive continuous improvement across safety, quality, process, design, procurement, and delivery.

* Ensure all compliance requirements are planned, delivered, and closed out, including (but not limited to) CDM, UKCA, PUWER, and related regulations.

Skills & Experience Required:

* Qualified Mechanical, Electrical, or Controls & Automation Engineer (or demonstrable equivalent experience).

* Proven experience delivering automated process equipment, such as conveyor systems, process plant, or manufacturing facilities.

* Strong understanding of VFM engineering, including associated processes and implementation on projects.

* Experienced Project Manager with a proven track record of delivering multiple projects from concept to completion.

* Sound knowledge of CDM regulations, RAMS, lifting plans, and statutory documentation related to plant and equipment installation.

* Experience managing on-site teams covering mechanical and electrical installation, automation, commissioning, and compliance testing.

* Fully mobile and willing to travel across the UK and Ireland as required

Where to Advertise Robotics Jobs in the UK (2026 Guide)

Advertising robotics jobs in the UK requires a different approach to most technical hiring. The candidate pool spans mechanical engineers, software developers, controls specialists, computer vision researchers and systems integrators — a multidisciplinary mix that general job boards are poorly equipped to reach. The strongest robotics candidates are often embedded in research groups, defence programmes or advanced manufacturing environments, and move between roles through specialist networks and industry events rather than mainstream platforms. This guide, published by RoboticsJobs.co.uk, covers where to advertise robotics roles in the UK in 2026, how the main platforms compare, what employers should expect to pay, and what the data says about hiring across different role types.

Robotics Jobs UK 2026: What to Expect Over the Next 3 Years

Robotics is having a moment that feels qualitatively different from the cycles of hype and disappointment that have characterised the sector in previous decades. The convergence of advances in AI, computer vision, battery technology, and hardware manufacturing has brought robotics to an inflection point — one where the gap between what robots can do in controlled laboratory conditions and what they can do in the unpredictable complexity of the real world is closing faster than at any previous point in the discipline's history. For job seekers, this inflection point is creating a jobs market that is expanding rapidly across a far wider range of industries and role types than robotics has historically occupied. Automotive and manufacturing remain significant employers, but they are now joined by logistics and warehousing, healthcare, agriculture, construction, defence, and the emerging category of humanoid robotics — each generating distinct hiring demand and drawing on overlapping but meaningfully different skill sets. The candidates who will thrive over the next three years are those who understand where the sector is heading — which application areas are scaling from pilot to production, which technologies are defining the architecture of modern robotic systems, and how the definition of a robotics career is evolving beyond the mechanical engineering core toward a much richer intersection of software, AI, and systems engineering. This article breaks down what the UK robotics jobs market is likely to look like through to 2028 — covering the titles emerging right now, the technologies driving employer demand, the skills that will matter most, and how to position your career at the leading edge of one of the most exciting technology transitions of the coming decade.
