Controls & Automation Proposals Engineer – PLC / SCADA

The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Controls & Automation Proposals Engineer to join a well-established systems integration and industrial automation business in theie Sheffiled office.

Working closely with the Senior Proposals Manager, you will be responsible for developing high-quality technical proposals across a diverse range of automation solutions, from PLC and SCADA systems through to full turnkey projects.

This is a varied, client-facing role combining technical expertise, commercial awareness, and strong communication skills, ideal for someone with an engineering background looking to move into a proposals or pre-sales position.

Key Responsibilities

* Produce detailed technical proposals and tenders for:

* PLC & SCADA systems

* Control system upgrades and modifications

* Digital and manufacturing information systems (MIS/MES)

* Service level agreements and support contracts

* Engineering resource / manpower solutions

* Full turnkey automation projects

* Collaborate with sales teams and customers to fully understand requirements

* Define technical solutions and prepare accurate cost estimates

* Build and maintain quotation cost spreadsheets.

* Liaise with suppliers and internal engineering teams to obtain pricing and delivery timelines

* Ensure all proposals are accurate, compliant, and professionally presented

* Support internal approval processes with Project Managers and senior stakeholders

* Develop strong customer relationships and respond promptly to enquiries

* Maintain high standards of written documentation and technical clarity

Ideal Candidate

* Background in engineering, automation, or process control systems

* Knowledge of PLC, SCADA, and industrial automation solutions

* Experience within a systems integrator, engineering, or manufacturing environment

* Strong technical writing and communication skills

* High attention to detail with a focus on accuracy in quotations and proposals

* Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build lasting relationships

Desirable:

* Experience in proposals, estimating, pre-sales, or technical sales

* Knowledge of manufacturing execution systems (MES) or digital solutions
