Mechanical Design Engineer

Lutterworth, Leicestershire (UK and occasional international travel required)

Up to £50,000 (dependent on experience)

Monday–Friday, 8:30am–5:00pm (typically finish at 3:30pm on Fridays; occasional out-of-hours work required depending on project demands)

Rise10 Recruitment are partnering with a specialist engineering consultancy delivering process, automation, and compliance solutions to the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and advanced life sciences sectors. They are now looking to appoint aMechanical Design Engineer to support the design and delivery of bespoke pharmaceutical process equipment and systems.

This role offers the opportunity to work on technically challenging projects within highly regulated GMP environments. You’ll play a key role in designing stainless steel process equipment and associated systems used within pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities, ensuring designs meet strict regulatory, safety, and hygienic design standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct detailed site surveys within regulated manufacturing environments

• Establish equipment locations and determine suitable routes for pipework, cabling, and structural supports

• Take accurate site measurements to support design development

• Produce and update General Arrangement (GA) drawings and detailed fabrication drawings using AutoCAD

• Design bespoke stainless steel process equipment including pharmaceutical mixing vessels and associated assemblies

• Ensure designs incorporate ATEX requirements, Machinery Directive compliance, CE marking, and appropriate guarding and risk assessment

• Collaborate closely with electrical and controls engineers to ensure integrated system functionality

• Ensure designs consider hygienic design principles, cleanability, and FDA-approved materials

• Maintain strict revision control and accurate engineering documentation

• Produce complete and accurate As-Built drawing packages upon project completion

• Specify components and approved suppliers to support procurement activities

• Support preparation of CE technical files and regulatory documentation

• Assist with installation, operation, and maintenance documentation for client equipment

About You

• Extensive experience in mechanical design, ideally within pharmaceutical, chemical, or regulated process industries

• Strong background in stainless steel fabrication and process equipment design

• Experience designing pharmaceutical mixing vessels or similar process systems

• Knowledge of ATEX requirements, Machinery Directive compliance, and CE marking

• Familiarity with FDA-approved materials and hygienic design principles

• High level of accuracy and attention to detail

• Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to multidisciplinary engineering teams

• Strong organisational and documentation control skills

Desirable

• Proficiency in AutoCAD (essential) and experience with 3D Inventor or similar 3D design software

• Experience preparing documentation for regulatory audits

• Understanding of solvent-based processes and hazardous area classifications

• Experience working in environments requiring full material traceability and certification
