Automation Support Engineer – shift-based
Macclesfield
Introduction to role:
Join our diverse team as a Shift-Based Automation Support Engineer at AstraZeneca Macclesfield. You will be a crucial part of the manufacturing and sterile packaging systems, providing 24/7 support to ensure the smooth operation of automated and computerised systems. Your role will involve fixing and resolving issues with automation equipment and control systems, performing proactive and reactive maintenance, and implementing technical solutions to optimise production efficiency and ensure compliance with regulatory and quality standards.
Accountabilities:
Your role will involve delivering and sustaining business objectives, providing engineering and automation expertise, to maintain equipment and systems by resolving problems and implementing improvements. As well as planning, coordinating, and undertaking electrical and control system maintenance activities; will be required to respond to critical breakdowns in a timely-manner and improving equipment availability.
You will be driving continuous improvement, by conducting and coordinating investigations identifying root cause analysis, and implementing effective containments and countermeasures. As well as working closely with the plant maintenance technicians; you will be supporting their knowledge uplift of automated systems; along with your own development.
This will be a shift position and the type of shift is subject to change to meet business requirements.
Essential Skills/Experience:

  • Recognised Engineering Apprenticeship or equivalent
  • ONC/HNC or equivalent in a relevant engineering field
  • Experience with Electrical and instrumentation systems
  • Experience with PLC, HMI, Robotic and Automation systems (e.g. Siemens S7, TIA, WinCC, Schneider, Staubli)
    Desirable Skills/Experience:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent professional qualification
  • PLC programming certification
  • Experience with Windows O/S and SQL
  • Experience with industrial networks (e.g. Industrial Ethernet / PROFINET)
  • Previous pharmaceutical proven experience and understanding of cGMP maintenance practices
  • Member of a relevant professional body
