Control Systems Engineer - Outside IR35 - Hybrid (Manchester, 3 Days Onsite)

Contract Length: 6 months
Location: Manchester (Hybrid - 3 days onsite, 2 remote)
Rate: Competitive (Outside IR35)

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced control systems engineer with expertise in Allen Bradley PLCs for a six-month contract opportunity in Manchester. This is a hybrid role requiring three days onsite per week and is deemed outside IR35.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in special purpose machinery, designing and commissioning industrial automation solutions for bespoke equipment and complex manufacturing systems.

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, and commission PLC control systems using Allen Bradley (Rockwell) platforms

Develop and modify HMI and SCADA systems

Integrate industrial automation and control systems with special purpose machinery

Conduct fault finding, testing, and debugging of control systems

Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including electrical and mechanical engineers

Support site commissioning and system handover

Required Skills & Experience

Essential: Proven experience in special purpose machinery, including bespoke automation systems

Strong expertise in Allen Bradley / Rockwell PLC programming (ControlLogix, CompactLogix, RSLogix, Studio 5000)

Experience with HMI and SCADA development

Familiarity with industrial networks (EtherNet/IP, DeviceNet, Profibus, Modbus)

Knowledge of safety PLCs and functional safety is beneficial

Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a hybrid working environment

Desirable Experience

Experience in motion control and servo systems

Understanding of electrical schematics and panel design
