Do you have 1-2 years Automation design experience? Due to continued growth, an established and innovative automation engineering company is seeking a talented Mechanical Design Engineer to join its expanding team based in Bedford.

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic engineer with a graduate mindset, strong technical ability, and a passion for precision design. You will play a key role in delivering advanced robotic and automation solutions across a range of industries.

Reporting directly to senior leadership, you will be responsible for a wide variety of mechanical design activities — from supporting the sales team with proposals and costing, to designing and developing robot auxiliary axis solutions and bespoke machine guarding systems.

This is a varied, hands-on position where creativity, accuracy, and engineering expertise are highly valued.

Responsibilities:

  • Create scheme models and drawings for proposal and quotation purposes

  • Obtain supplier quotations and provide back-office support to sales and engineering teams

  • Assist in the strategic design and development of: Robot auxiliary axes, Positioners, Grippers, Roller doors, Guarding solutions

  • Produce accurate part and assembly models, along with high-quality manufacturing drawings

  • Work with specialist suppliers to source newly designed components and assemblies

  • Compile detailed Bills of Materials (BOMs) and maintain accurate MRP records

  • Generate 3D renders and graphics for technical documentation and marketing materials

  • Assist in the creation of User Manuals and Installation Guides

    Experience Required:

  • Strong 3D CAD modelling skills (essential)

  • In-depth understanding of technical drawings and engineering processes

  • Excellent attention to detail, particularly in technical documentation

  • Proactive and solutions-focused mindset

  • Comfortable working collaboratively within a growing engineering team
