Moulding Technician

Location: Newhaven
Salary: Up to £45,000 per annum (dependent on experience)

Talented People is recruiting on behalf of a leading manufacturing group specialising in plastic injection moulding. Operating across multiple sites in Sussex, the company is committed to delivering high-performance components through continuous improvement, lean initiatives, and a culture of innovation. As the business grows, they are seeking an experienced Moulding Technician to join their technical team and support both production and training.

Job Profile

The Moulding Technician will be responsible for operating, maintaining, and improving injection moulding processes and equipment across multiple sites. The role includes supporting new product/tool introductions, leading lean projects, mentoring junior staff, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives in quality and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities / Duties

  • Operate injection moulding machines, ancillaries, and automated assembly systems.

  • Ensure all equipment is maintained safely and complies with machinery directives.

  • Lead technical and lean improvement projects including 6S, TPM, and Kaizen initiatives.

  • Support the introduction of new tooling, equipment, and products.

  • Mentor apprentices and junior setters through development programmes.

  • Carry out tool setting and process changes in accordance with safety standards and production targets.

  • Modify and optimise processes to improve quality and maximise efficiency.

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organised work environment.

  • Support other moulding facilities within the group by troubleshooting and providing process support.

  • Collaborate with Production Managers and Group Moulding Technicians to reduce waste and enhance flow.

  • Work with QA teams to reduce process variability and implement SPC (Statistical Process Control) for critical features.

  • Drive robotic and automation process development to deliver cost savings.

  • Complete required training and comply with company improvement programmes.

  • Perform other duties as reasonably required by the business.

    Requirements / Skills

    Essential:

  • Significant experience in injection moulding and tool setting in a recognised manufacturing company.

  • Practical knowledge of various plastics and raw materials.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work independently and within a team.

  • Excellent communication and mentoring skills.

  • Full UK driving licence.

  • Flexible, results-oriented, and quality-focused.

    Desirable:

  • Apprenticeship in Plastics/Engineering or equivalent qualification.

  • Degree in Plastics/Moulding or High-Performance Moulding.

  • Knowledge of mould machine maintenance or toolmaking experience.

  • Leadership and commercial awareness.

  • Experience training junior staff and a focus on developing others.
