ABOUT THE POSITION

The Robotics Engineer position combines robotics, controls, software, and electrical work. As part of our team, you will design, build, install, and maintain automated systems for use in diverse production environments. This position plays an integral role in the design and development of our next‑generation robotics and 3D scanning systems. You will turn ideas into reality by designing solutions that meet customer needs. The successful candidate will install, troubleshoot, and service ARIS Technology automated systems at our valued customers’ locations. Daily collaboration with other Engineers, including our Software Engineers, customers, and vendors is essential to this role.


We are looking for someone who wants to grow and help create a great culture with a tech start‑up within Industry 4.0. This position is based out of our new, modern location in Hinckley, IL and will involve significant travel.

JOB OBJECTIVES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design and build cells uniquely created for each customer, in collaboration with the team
  • Install and service our custom automated systems at client sites
  • Design, build, and test motion control systems including servo motors, stepper motors, sensors, switches, and power distribution
  • Build and install end‑of‑arm tooling (EOAT)
  • Install software to control robotic systems for applications
  • Create robotic programs utilizing a Teach Pendant or other technology
  • Set up safety equipment and confirm sensor operation
  • Troubleshoot, test, and maintain robotic systems
  • Conduct research to find the best components to use in the development of automation equipment
  • Advise management regarding product performance and suggestions for product improvements
  • Collaborate with other engineers on matters such as design concepts, trouble shooting, innovation, etc.
  • Use a variety of tools, including precision instruments to measure parts, operating tools during the assembly of robotic cells

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Industrial Automation and Systems Integration experience, including development, implementation, and evaluation
  • Professional experience with sensors, 3D scanners, servo motors, and power distribution
  • Experience designing complex systems, such as industrial automated systems
  • Proven ability to design systems utilizing current technology including CAD and 3D Modeling in programs such as SolidWorks
  • Testing, troubleshooting, and validation experience at company work site, remotely or at company work site
  • Robotic Motion Planning experience
  • Demonstrable mechanical ability
  • Familiar with Localization as it relates to Robotics
  • Knowledge of algorithmic concepts such as scene graphs, spatial data structures, and physics simulations
  • Accustomed to creating and documenting tests and experience working in a test‑driven environment
  • Creative thinking which allows for designs of new, innovative products
  • Exceptional analytical, critical thinking, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills
  • Proven ability to succeed working independently as well as with teams, regardless of location and whether remote or in‑person
  • Time management skills, including a history of prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines
  • Exceptional communication skills, including listening and processing ideas, oral and written communication; must be able to explain technical matters with non‑technical stakeholders
  • Collaborates well with others – we work within our teams and across the organization to share ideas, delegate and accept responsibilities; we partner with our customers and vendors; our team shows respect to those with whom we work
  • Ability to translate complicated business requirements into multiple solution options and explain the benefits and disadvantages of various approaches
  • This is a client facing position which requires advanced communication skills, the ability to understand the perspective of our customer, diplomacy, and excellence in execution

  • Demonstrated accountability in your daily work and special projects
  • General knowledge of Windows OS and Linux
  • Robotics software experience: Fanuc and Universal
  • Proficient with electrical, measuring, and hand tools
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Robotics Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, Design Engineering, or related Engineering field
  • A valid and current driver's license is required

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Collaborative robot experience
  • Robotics software experience: Yaskawa, ABB, and Mitsubishi
  • Experience building Robotic Operating System (ROS) interfaces and systems
  • Teach pendant operation
  • Manufacturing industry experience
  • Project management
  • Experience working in a start‑up and/or matrix environment
