Summary:

My Client is a leading provider of power conversion products that are sustainable and efficient. Main Function of the Job

The main function of the job is to perform lab and office-based work relating to the design, development and support of DC/DC and AC/DC converters as specified by Department Head

Job Specification

  • Lead the design, development, and testing of DC/DC and AC/DC converters from initial specification definition through to the delivery of mass production units while working closely with Business Development to exceed customer expectations.

  • Stay informed on current trends and emerging design insights by attending conferences and reviewing relevant literature, with the aim of applying these findings to new product designs.

  • Design analysis (Circuit Simulation, Component Stress Analysis, MTBF, etc)

  • Conducting Design Verification Testing (DVT) & Qualification testing of development power supplies for electrical, EMC, mechanical and environmental performance.

  • Work closely with our Production and Test Engineering teams during the DFM process to ensure that products are suitable for mass production.

  • Resolution of design issues found during DVT & Qualification testing.

  • Acceptance Testing of Prototypes (ATP).

  • Collaborate with the Test Engineering team during the design of Test Benches and Test Programmes, providing guidance and taking ownership of specific design elements as needed. Assessment of Test benches and Test programmes prior to production release.

  • . Develop and manage product documentation—including BOMs, drawings, and related materials—within the PLM system.

  • Report on the progress of project work as requested by the Department Head/Project Lead.

  • Collaborate closely with the Production, Test Engineering and Quality teams throughout the product lifecycle, contributing to sustaining efforts as needed to resolve issues and implement improvements both in Production and in the field.

  • Support the Quality and Failure Analysis teams in conducting root cause investigations of field-returned units, address design-related concerns, and generate the necessary documentation for design changes/revision control.

    Personal Attributes

    To effectively perform the duties of a Senior Design Engineer, individuals must be able to demonstrate a number of competencies that are essential to the position, which include:

    Essential

  • Formal qualification equivalent to a UK degree level in electronics or a related discipline. Candidates with a HND in electronics will also be considered if they have relevant experience.

  • At least 5 plus years’ experience in electronics design, preferably power conversion or analogue electronics.

  • Knowledge of modern power conversion design techniques applicable to DC/DC and AC/DC converters up to approximately 10kW.

  • Experience of simulation software used in electronics design.

  • Familiar with mechanical design of power converters, relating to manufacturability, EMI and thermal constraints.

  • Proficient in design-related software tools, including schematic entry and PCB design suites, simulation and analytics platforms, reliability tools, and PLM lifecycle management systems. Hands on experience of laboratory based functions such as product testing and soldering.

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, with the ability to form logical solutions to problems.

  • Possess an aptitude to lead projects, lead and work with peer groups, delivering products in defined timescales.

  • Willing to travel as required.

    Desirable

  • Experience of FMEA assessments. Familiar with BS-EN(phone number removed) safety standard Familiar with BS-EN61000 EMC standards.

  • Knowledge of I2C, SPI protocols, RS485, RS232, CANBUS or USB interfaces. Familiarity with microcontroller architectures and integration into hardware designs. Experience using VEE, LabView, or similar graphical software environments for ATE

    Compensation and Benefits:

  • Hours of Work: 38 per week, 8.30 am to 5.30 pm (half hour lunch) Monday – Thursday, 8.30 am to 12.30 pm Friday.

  • Pension: Group Stakeholder Pension Scheme. Company’s contribution 5% of basic salary, employee contribution a minimum of 4% of basic salary
