MERITUS are recruiting for a Controls Engineer to support in Test & Validation activities for a major systems integration business based in Telford. The role will require international travel to sites in countries such as Japan and Germany. YOU MUST HAVE PLC PROGRAMMING EXPERIENCE.

CONTROLS ENGINEER - £45,000 PER ANNUM - TELFORD (+INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL) - PLC PROGRAMMING - FAST-MOVING INTERVIEW PROCESS - SECTOR: ENERGY / NUCLEAR / SYSTEMS INTEGRATION

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Controls, Test & Validation Engineer to join a specialist engineering and automation business delivering complex control systems across a range of industrial sectors. This role is focused on bridging the gap between project completion and operational handover, ensuring systems are fully tested, validated, commissioned and optimised for customer use.

The successful candidate will play a key role in software development, system integration, commissioning, customer support, and training activities, working on projects both within the UK and internationally.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and modify PLC software using Allen Bradley Rockwell and Siemens S7 / TIA Portal platforms.

Design and implement structured control software including Ladder Logic, Statement List and Function Blocks.

Configure and commission industrial communication networks including Ethernet, Modbus and Profibus.

Set up and commission AC/DC drives, inverters and associated control systems.

Apply PID control principles for the regulation of flow, level, pressure, temperature and humidity processes.

Perform comprehensive testing, validation and verification of hardware and software systems.

Support system commissioning activities at customer sites throughout the UK and internationally.

Deliver customer training on installed systems and equipment.

Develop and support robot control software and PLC integration.

Provide remote technical support, fault finding and diagnostics for installed systems.

Candidate Requirements

Significant hands-on experience programming Allen Bradley PLCs is essential.

Experience in PLC and SCADA system design, development and commissioning.

Strong background in industrial automation, controls engineering and system integration.

Experience across software, hardware and control system development.

Knowledge of Ignition SCADA systems would be advantageous.

Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics or a related discipline is preferred.

Candidates with a BTEC qualification and substantial industrial controls experience will also be considered
