Electronics Technician / Prototype Engineer (PCB, Soldering & Hardware Build)

Location: Devizes

Salary: Competitive

We’re looking for a hands-on Electronics Technician / Prototype Engineer to take circuit designs and turn them into fully working physical devices. This is a practical, build-focused role where you’ll be assembling, modifying, and refining prototypes used in real-world applications.

If you enjoy PCB soldering, wiring, debugging, and physically building hardware, this role will suit you.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • You’ll be working closely with engineers and developers to bring new products to life:
  • Build and assemble electronic prototypes from schematics and BOMs
  • Carry out PCB assembly, soldering, and rework (SMT/SMD and through-hole)
  • Perform fine-pitch soldering and board modifications
  • Design and build internal wiring and cable harnesses
  • Integrate electronics into mechanical enclosures (metal, plastic, 3D printed parts)
  • Troubleshoot faults and improve prototype builds
  • Support R&D and product development through hands-on iteration

Skills & Experience

  • We’re looking for practical, hands-on experience in:
  • PCB assembly and soldering (SMT / SMD and through-hole)
  • Reading circuit diagrams and technical drawings
  • Electronics prototyping or product build work
  • Wiring, crimping, and cable harness assembly
  • Using lab/test equipment (multimeter, oscilloscope, etc.)
  • Mechanical assembly (enclosures, fittings, basic fabrication)

Nice to Have (Not Essential)

  • IPC certification (e.g. IPC-A-610, IPC 7711/7721)
  • Experience in R&D, product development, or prototype environments
  • Familiarity with cable standards (IPC/WHMA-A-620)

Who This Role Suits

  • Electronics Technicians who enjoy hands-on build work
  • Prototype or R&D Technicians
  • Hardware Engineers who prefer practical work over desk-based design
  • Skilled hobbyists or makers with strong soldering and build experience

Why Apply?

  • Work on real prototype development, not repetitive production
  • Variety of work across electronics, wiring, and mechanical builds
  • Opportunity to influence design improvements and product quality
  • Fast-paced, hands-on engineering environment

Would suit Someone who has the following skills: Electronics Technician, Prototype Engineer, PCB Assembly, Soldering, SMT, SMD, Hardware Technician, R&D Technician, Mechatronics Technician, Wiring, Cable Harness, Electronic Assembly, Product Development, Hardware Build

Robotics Jobs UK 2026: roles, salaries and skills for engineers and researchers in manufacturing, logistics, autonomous vehicles, defence and healthcare. In the UK, most robotics jobs cluster around hubs such as London, Cambridge, Bristol, Oxford, Manchester and Edinburgh, with common titles including Robotics Engineer, SLAM Engineer, Controls Engineer and Mechatronics Engineer. The most efficient way to browse live robotics jobs is via specialist boards like RoboticsJobs.co.uk, which curate roles specifically in this field so you are not lost in generic tech listings. This guide covers everything you need to know about robotics jobs in the UK in 2026, from the roles and skills in demand to where to find live opportunities and how to stand out as a candidate.

Where to Advertise Robotics Jobs in the UK (2026 Guide)

Where to advertise robotics jobs UK in 2026: the specialist boards, university channels and community routes that reach robotics, SLAM and controls talent. The candidate pool spans mechanical engineers, software developers, controls specialists, computer vision researchers and systems integrators — a multidisciplinary mix that general job boards are poorly equipped to reach. The strongest robotics candidates are often embedded in research groups, defence programmes or advanced manufacturing environments, and move between roles through specialist networks and industry events rather than mainstream platforms. This guide, published by RoboticsJobs.co.uk, covers where to advertise robotics roles in the UK in 2026, how the main platforms compare, what employers should expect to pay, and what the data says about hiring across different role types.
