Senior Verification & Validation Engineer (V&V) – Embedded Software | DO-178C | Safety Critical Systems

Are you an experienced Verification & Validation Engineer, Software Test Engineer, or Systems Verification Engineer with a background in safety-critical embedded software?

We're recruiting for an exciting opportunity to join an innovative engineering business developing advanced autonomous technologies for highly regulated industries. This role is ideal for engineers with experience in DO-178C, embedded C/C++ software, real-time systems, functional safety, and software certification.

Working as part of a specialist engineering team, you'll support the verification, validation, testing, and certification of complex embedded software used within autonomous, aerospace, defence, robotics, and other safety-critical applications.

Key Responsibilities

· Develop and execute Verification & Validation (V&V) strategies for embedded software.

· Produce verification plans, test procedures, validation reports, and certification documentation.

· Perform requirements-based testing and maintain full requirements traceability.

· Conduct software integration testing, system testing, qualification testing, and regression testing.

· Support software verification activities in line with DO-178C and other functional safety standards.

· Develop automated test solutions and verification frameworks.

· Generate certification evidence and compliance documentation.

· Participate in software reviews, defect analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.

· Support system verification within safety-critical and mission-critical environments.

Essential Skills & Experience

· Proven experience in Verification & Validation (V&V).

· Experience testing embedded software and real-time systems.

· Knowledge of DO-178C, software lifecycle processes, or equivalent safety-critical development standards.

· Experience with requirements-based testing, validation, and traceability.

· Background in regulated industries such as Aerospace, Defence, Automotive, Rail, Medical Devices, Nuclear, Industrial Automation, or similar.

· Understanding of software verification methodologies.

Highly Desirable

· DO-178C Level A or Level B programme experience.

· Knowledge of ISO 26262, IEC 61508, or other functional safety standards.

· Experience with SIL, HIL, or SIH testing.

· Familiarity with embedded C/C++, Linux, RTOS, or real-time operating systems.

· Experience with automated testing, fault injection, fuzz testing, Monte Carlo simulation, or static analysis.

· Knowledge of autonomous systems, UAVs, drones, robotics, flight control systems, or mission-critical software.

· Experience supporting software certification or regulatory approval.
