The Role:

At Saab, we are constantly looking ahead and pushing boundaries to advance our product offerings. Saab is expanding in the UK and we are now seeking a talented and highly motivated Hardware Engineering Manager to oversee our hardware activities within our Sensor Systems Radar business, based at our Fareham campus. Sensor Systems is responsible for radar and sensors research, development and delivery in the UK. As Hardware Engineering Manager you will lead all activities across the Hardware Team and report directly to the Head of Engineering.

As Hardware Engineering Manager, you will influence our technical solutions as well as our ways of working and be responsible for the growth and development of the Hardware Team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support Head of Engineering for Sensor Systems on all hardware related activities including budget, skills mix, capacity, process, compliance, tools, infrastructure, hardware strategy.

  • Provide overall direction, oversight, and mentoring for the Hardware Team.

  • Achieve successful collaboration between Hardware Team and stakeholders.

  • Develop and maintain a series of metrics to support hardware task planning and estimating.

  • Identify and mitigate issues associated with execution of hardware tasks, escalating issues as necessary.

  • Maintain a culture of diversity, inclusion, and respect for team members.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Degree Educated within a relevant Engineering discipline.

  • Be highly proficient technically in at least one of the Hardware Team core areas: electrical, RF electronic, digital electronic, mechanical.

  • A proven track record in delivering complex hardware solutions in both R&D and product development environments, in a team leadership role.

  • Self-motivated to seek answers when information is limited and be comfortable dealing with ambiguity.

  • Identify and own a problem, enabling others to deliver an efficient and effective solution.

  • Good technical communication skills, confident in writing and reviewing formal technical documentation in line with appropriate customer and business requirements.

  • Very good command of written and verbal English, ability to communicate efficiently with international colleagues from various engineering and non-engineering functions.

  • As a person you are positive, social, results-oriented and a team player.

  • Like cooperating with others but capable of working individually as well.

  • During your employment you will handle tasks and materials that are classified as military secret and therefore you must have a UK citizenship and either hold, or be capable of holding SC.

As a National Security Vetting clearance is required for this role, applicants will be required to hold National Security Vetting clearance to SC level or have the ability to gain it.
