External Sales Engineer – New Business (West Midlands)

Location: Field-based (West Midlands)

About the Client

Our client is a specialist UK manufacturer hydraulic equipment used across a wide range of industrial applications in the tooling sector.

Their innovative solutions support customers in sectors such as energy, manufacturing, construction, and process industries. With continued growth, they are now seeking an External Sales Engineer to expand market presence and drive new business wins in the West Midlands region.

The Role

This is a field-based sales role with a strong emphasis on new business development. You will be responsible for visiting customers, developing relationships, and opening new accounts within the West Midlands.

Your week will typically be structured as:

• 3 days on the road meeting customers and prospects in the West Midlands

• 1 day working from home (planning, prospecting, admin)

• 1 day in the Coventry/Nuneaton office collaborating with the technical team

Key responsibilities include:

• Prospecting and researching potential customers in target industries

• Regular customer visits to build relationships and uncover opportunities

• Generating new business through networking, site visits, and industry events

• Following up on inbound leads and converting them into qualified opportunities

• Engaging with customers to understand technical requirements in tensioning and bolting applications

• Preparing accurate technical quotations and proposals to win new business

• Building and maintaining a pipeline of opportunities using a structured sales approach

• Collaborating with colleagues at HQ to ensure customer needs are fully met

• Supporting the wider team to ensure successful delivery of solutions

About You

We are for a hungry, and dynamic individual with the drive to succeed in sales and a hunger for new business. This is very much a “hunter” role – focused purely on bringing in new accounts.

We are open to candidates who:

• Already have proven experience in external field sales, technical sales, or business development

• OR are currently in an internal sales or office-based technical role and are ready to step into external sales, particularly from an instrumentation / pressure, level, and flow background

Additional qualities we are seeking:

• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret technical requirements

• Ambitious, target-driven, and eager to learn

• Confident in approaching prospects and comfortable with cold outreach

• Based in the West Midlands (or commutable to Coventry/Nuneaton) with flexibility to travel to customers
