Make Wayve the experience that defines your career!

The role

Join Wayve’s Onboard Experience team to lead the technical direction of the in-vehicle web experience that helps people see and trust what an autonomous vehicle is doing in real time. You will own a high-impact product used in live vehicle operations, spanning camera/video, 2D overlays, and 3D spatial visualisation of the vehicle’s surroundings. This is a rare opportunity to build reliable, safety-critical software under real-world constraints while shaping how complex AI systems are presented to humans. You will work closely with operators and engineers, balancing rapid iteration with robustness, performance, and maintainability.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead architecture and technical strategy across web, backend, and in-vehicle environments, setting standards for reliability, performance, and code quality.
  • Drive the evolution of real-time visualisation features, including camera/video + overlays and 3D spatial rendering of trajectories, perception, and occupancy.
  • Partner with operators, product, safety, and engineering stakeholders to prioritise and deliver improvements that measurably increase usability and operational efficiency.
  • Mentor engineers and raise the bar on engineering practices, including testing, observability, incident readiness, and long-term maintainability.
  • Make pragmatic trade-offs in a constrained, intermittently connected environment, ensuring the system remains dependable in live demos and day-to-day operations.

About you

In order to set you up for success as a Staff Fullstack Software Engineer at Wayve, we’re looking for the following skills and experience.

Essential

  • Proven experience leading technical design and delivery of complex software systems across frontend and backend.
  • Strong fullstack expertise in React and TypeScript, plus backend services and APIs, with confidence making architecture decisions and aligning multiple engineers.
  • Experience setting technical direction across multi-platform surfaces (web + Android/in-vehicle), and ensuring cohesive integration end-to-end.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and operate production systems with high reliability expectations, including incident readiness and long-term maintainability.
  • Strong understanding of performance constraints in rich, interactive web UIs, including rendering, memory, and handling high-frequency / real-time data.
  • Track record of driving engineering quality through pragmatic practices: testing strategy, observability, monitoring, and clear ownership.
  • Ability to work with high autonomy in ambiguous problem spaces and make effective trade-offs between speed, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, able to translate operator and stakeholder needs into technical plans and prioritised delivery.
  • Experience mentoring engineers through design reviews, pairing, feedback, and setting team standards.

Desirable

  • Experience building real-time visualisation products (video + overlays, telemetry dashboards, spatial visualisation) where latency and correctness matter.
  • Hands-on experience with browser-based 3D rendering (WebGL, Three.js, React Three Fiber), including scene graph design and real-time update loops.
  • Experience building software for constrained environments, including intermittent connectivity and strict reliability requirements.
  • Familiarity with in-vehicle or embedded-adjacent constraints, and integrating with hardware or platform-specific systems.
  • Experience improving usability for real operational users through rapid iteration loops, research, and measurable product impact.
  • Experience establishing or evolving technical standards across a codebase: architecture patterns, libraries, tooling, and release processes.

This is a full-time role based in our office in London. At Wayve we want the best of all worlds so we operate a hybrid working policy that combines time together in our offices and workshops to fuel innovation, culture, relationships and learning, and time spent working from home.

Wayve is committed to creating an inclusive interview experience. If you require any accommodations or adjustments to participate fully in our interview process, please let us know

We understand that everyone has a unique set of skills and experiences and that not everyone will meet all of the requirements listed above. If you’re passionate about self-driving cars and think you have what it takes to make a positive impact on the world, we encourage you to apply.

Where to Advertise Robotics Jobs in the UK (2026 Guide)

Advertising robotics jobs in the UK requires a different approach to most technical hiring. The candidate pool spans mechanical engineers, software developers, controls specialists, computer vision researchers and systems integrators — a multidisciplinary mix that general job boards are poorly equipped to reach. The strongest robotics candidates are often embedded in research groups, defence programmes or advanced manufacturing environments, and move between roles through specialist networks and industry events rather than mainstream platforms. This guide, published by RoboticsJobs.co.uk, covers where to advertise robotics roles in the UK in 2026, how the main platforms compare, what employers should expect to pay, and what the data says about hiring across different role types.

New Robotics Employers to Watch in 2026: UK and Global Companies Transforming Automation Careers

Robotics is moving rapidly from factory floors into healthcare, logistics, agriculture, autonomous systems, and consumer products. As automation becomes embedded in everyday life, companies are investing in robots that operate alongside humans, analyse environments in real time, and learn from data. In 2026, demand for robotics engineers, software developers, system integrators, and AI specialists continues to surge. For professionals exploring opportunities on www.RoboticsJobs.co.uk , understanding the employers that are scaling, winning contracts, securing investment, or expanding into the UK market is crucial. This article highlights top robotics employers to watch in 2026, spanning innovative startups, high‑growth scale‑ups, and established global technology leaders with strong UK presence.

How Many Robotics Tools Do You Need to Know to Get a Robotics Job?

If you’re pursuing a career in robotics, it can feel like the list of tools you should learn never ends. One job advert asks for ROS, another mentions Gazebo, another wants experience with Python, Linux, C++, RobotStudio, MATLAB/Simulink, perception stacks, control frameworks, real-time OS, vision libraries — and that’s just scratching the surface. With so many frameworks, languages and platforms, it’s no wonder robotics job seekers feel overwhelmed. But here’s the honest truth most recruiters won’t say explicitly: 👉 They don’t hire you because you know every tool — they hire you because you can apply the right tools to solve real robotics problems reliably and explain your reasoning clearly. Tools matter — but only in service of outcomes. So the real question isn’t how many tools you should know, but which tools you should master and why. For most robotics roles, the answer is significantly fewer — and far more focused — than you might assume. This article breaks down what employers really expect, which tools are core, which are role-specific, and how to focus your learning so you look capable, confident, and ready to contribute from day one.
