Senior Structural Engineer - Derby - Salary: Competitive & Negotiable

A leading, multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy based in Derby is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to join their well-established and award-winning structures team, known for tackling a diverse range of complex and bespoke projects.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Structural Engineer who’s passionate about innovative, technical design and sustainable engineering practices.

The Opportunity

The role of the Senior Structural Engineer will involve taking structural projects from conception through to completion, engaging directly with clients, stakeholders, and design teams. You will be delivering technically robust solutions across a wide array of projects and sectors.

The successful Senior Structural Engineer will join team of talented Chartered, senior, and graduate engineers, working in a collaborative and creative environment that encourages growth, leadership, and continued professional development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver structural designs and detailing in steel, concrete, timber, and masonry in accordance with UK and European codes

  • Lead structural design from concept to completion, including calculations, technical reports, and specifications

  • Attend and lead client, design, and project meetings

  • Oversee junior engineers and technicians, providing guidance and performing QA reviews

  • Carry out structural appraisals and defect surveys on residential, commercial, and industrial buildings

  • Incorporate sustainability and BREEAM objectives into designs, with an understanding of embodied carbon

  • Engage in business development activities, nurturing existing client relationships and identifying new opportunities

  • Assist with fee proposals, project programming, and commercial management

    About You

  • Degree-qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering (Minimum 2:1)

  • Chartered or working towards Chartership with IStructE or ICE

  • Minimum of 4 years relevant post-graduate experience

  • Experience in writing fee proposals and commercial management of projects

  • Experience in undertaking structural surveys for a range of scenarios including residential and commercial defect surveys

  • Confident in design of timber, masonry, steel and concrete to British Standard or Eurocodes

  • Confidence and ability with team and project management

  • Good experience of structural analysis and design software (e.g. Tekla, Tedds, Robot, or similar)

  • Client focused approach with good interpersonal and communication skills

  • Full UK driving licence and own transport preferred
