Gleeson is proud to be partnering with a global automotive manufacturing business as they look to appoint an Advanced Automation Engineer to support continued growth and new programme launches.

This is a key position within the engineering function, offering responsibility for leading complex manufacturing equipment projects from concept through to production. The role will play a critical part in driving capital investment, supplier management, and lean manufacturing initiatives across a high-volume, advanced manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the technical lead for new manufacturing equipment and process proposals.
  • Develop equipment concepts, specifications, and Statements of Requirement (SORs) in collaboration with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs).
  • Lead the technical evaluation and selection of new equipment suppliers, including capability assessments and technical comparisons.
  • Develop and standardise documentation across all project phases, from concept through to production handover.
  • Stakeholder Management across internal Departments
  • Identify opportunities to implements CI across the business.
  • Lead projects associated with new equipment purchases, ensuring delivery to agreed scope, timing, and budget.
  • Prepare and summarise equipment and installation cost data to support new business quotations and RFQs.
  • Manage supplier relationships, including equipment build, delivery, installation, and commissioning activities.
  • Maintain and develop the approved equipment supplier base in conjunction with the Purchasing department.
  • Lead major equipment installations and support associated functions such as maintenance and operations.
  • Lead equipment drawing reviews with SMEs, providing approval or feedback as required.
  • Support and document equipment run-offs at supplier sites
  • Lead Machine FMEA and PFMEA activities for major equipment and manufacturing processes.
  • Effectively manage change throughout the projectlifecycle.
  • Equipment layout development to improve material flow and minimise non-value-added movement using Value Stream Mapping.
  • Develop standardised work methods and operating instructions.
  • Create pre-production packaging solutions for Work in Progress and Finished Goods.

Ideal Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline preferred.
  • Experience with Lean principles as well as leading Failure Mode and Effects Analysis.
  • Experience with Capex, Projects and automation environments
