Job Title: Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer (Electrical Bias)

Location: Mitcham

Department: Engineering/Maintenance

Reports To: Engineering Supervisor

Employment Type: Full-Time

Job Summary:

We are seeking a proactive and versatile Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer with a strong electrical bias (70%) and complementary mechanical skills (30%) to support the maintenance, repair, and continuous improvement of our production equipment and plant infrastructure. The role is crucial to ensuring equipment reliability, minimizing downtime, and supporting production efficiency in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Electrical (70%)

Diagnose, repair, and maintain electrical systems, including motors, PLCs, control panels, sensors, and circuits.

Carry out planned preventive maintenance (PPM) on electrical equipment.

Perform fault-finding and troubleshoot complex electrical issues in a timely manner.

Install, modify, and upgrade electrical systems and components as per specifications.

Ensure all electrical work complies with relevant regulations (e.g., IEE wiring regulations).

Work with automation systems and support PLC/HMI programming where applicable.

Support energy efficiency initiatives and monitoring systems.

Mechanical (30%)

Support mechanical maintenance tasks including pumps, conveyors, valves, pneumatic/hydraulic systems, bearings, and gearboxes.

Assist in breakdown repairs of mechanical components and systems.

Participate in mechanical installations and modifications.

Conduct mechanical inspections as part of the PPM schedule.

Skills and Experience:

Essential:

Recognized electrical engineering qualification (e.g., NVQ Level 3, HNC, or equivalent).

Proven experience in a similar multi-skilled engineering role in a manufacturing or industrial environment.

Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills on electrical systems.

Basic understanding of mechanical systems and willingness to develop further.

Experience with PLCs (Siemens, Allen Bradley, Omron or similar) and industrial automation.

Desirable:

17th/18th Edition wiring regulations certified.

Knowledge of Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement principles.

Experience with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems).

Mechanical qualification or formal training.

Personal Attributes:

Problem solver with a hands-on, can-do attitude.

Able to work independently and as part of a team.

Strong attention to detail and safety-conscious.

Flexible to work shifts or be on-call, if required.

Working Conditions:

Predominantly factory/facility floor-based with occasional office-based duties.

Will be involve with Call-out rota and may involve weekend work.

Physical tasks including lifting, climbing ladders, and working at heights.

Benefits:

Up to £48000

Overtime opportunities/ On call opportunity – On call 1 in 4 weeks, paid £70 per week on standby and then if called out you receive a minimum of 4 hours at x2. (extra £6370 per year without getting called out)
