Robotics Technician

Location: Bristol (On-Site)

Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent

Salary: Dependent on Experience (DOE)

The Opportunity

We're working with an exciting and fast-growing robotics company that is developing advanced autonomous systems for real-world industrial applications.

As the business continues to expand, they are looking to appoint a Robotics Technician to support the assembly, maintenance, testing and operation of cutting-edge robotic platforms.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys building, fixing and improving hardware systems while working alongside a highly skilled engineering team.

The Role

As a Robotics Technician, you'll play a vital role in supporting robotics development activities, workshop operations and rapid prototyping projects.

You'll work closely with robotics, mechanical, electrical and software engineers to ensure hardware systems, tools and equipment are always available and operating efficiently.

Unlike many technician positions, this role offers direct involvement with advanced robotic systems, prototype development and real-world engineering challenges.

Key Responsibilities

Robot Assembly & Maintenance

  • Assemble, integrate and repair robotic hardware and subsystems
  • Support the build of new development and prototype systems
  • Perform hardware upgrades and modifications
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware issues
  • Prepare robotic systems for demonstrations, customer visits and deployments
  • Work closely with engineering teams to minimise downtime

Workshop Operations

  • Manage the day-to-day operation of the workshop and prototyping environment
  • Operate, maintain and troubleshoot 3D printing equipment
  • Maintain workshop tools, equipment and consumables
  • Procure and commission new workshop equipment as required
  • Ensure workspaces remain organised, safe and efficient
  • Support engineers by maintaining a productive development environment

Prototype Development & Hardware Coordination

  • Maintain inventory of prototype and development components
  • Coordinate purchasing of engineering parts, tools and consumables
  • Track deliveries and ensure parts are available when required
  • Maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) and component records
  • Prepare hardware kits for engineering projects and development builds
  • Monitor stock levels and support inventory management processes

Test Rigs & Experimental Environments

  • Build prototype fixtures, structures and test rigs
  • Construct workstations and experimental environments for testing
  • Support rapid prototyping activities across multiple engineering teams
  • Assist with creating physical environments for robot evaluation and demonstrations

Requirements

  • Experience with electronics and hardware assemblies
  • Strong practical workshop and fabrication skills
  • Experience operating and maintaining 3D printers
  • Experience building or testing hardware prototypes
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Experience managing inventory, components and workshop resources
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of tasks

Desirable Experience

  • Robotics, automation or mechatronics systems
  • Rapid prototyping methods and fabrication techniques
  • Aluminium extrusion systems
  • Familiarity with CAD models and engineering drawings
  • Motors, sensors, actuators or embedded systems
  • Machine shop equipment
  • Workshop safety training or certification

Who We're Looking For

  • A practical, hands-on problem solver
  • Someone who enjoys building, fixing and improving things
  • Highly organised with strong attention to detail
  • Proactive and self-motivated
  • Comfortable taking ownership of workshop operations
  • Excited by robotics and advanced engineering technology
  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced development environment

What's on Offer

  • Salary dependent on experience
  • Opportunity to work with cutting-edge robotics technology
  • Direct access to advanced robotic platforms and prototype systems
  • Varied and hands-on engineering work
  • Collaborative and highly skilled engineering team
  • Genuine opportunity to contribute to innovative products being deployed in real-world environments
  • Long-term career growth within a rapidly expanding technology business

Robotics Jobs in the UK: Roles, Skills, Salaries and How to Get Hired (2026 Guide)

Robotics Jobs UK 2026: roles, salaries and skills for engineers and researchers in manufacturing, logistics, autonomous vehicles, defence and healthcare. In the UK, most robotics jobs cluster around hubs such as London, Cambridge, Bristol, Oxford, Manchester and Edinburgh, with common titles including Robotics Engineer, SLAM Engineer, Controls Engineer and Mechatronics Engineer. The most efficient way to browse live robotics jobs is via specialist boards like RoboticsJobs.co.uk, which curate roles specifically in this field so you are not lost in generic tech listings. This guide covers everything you need to know about robotics jobs in the UK in 2026, from the roles and skills in demand to where to find live opportunities and how to stand out as a candidate.

Where to Advertise Robotics Jobs in the UK (2026 Guide)

Where to advertise robotics jobs UK in 2026: the specialist boards, university channels and community routes that reach robotics, SLAM and controls talent. The candidate pool spans mechanical engineers, software developers, controls specialists, computer vision researchers and systems integrators — a multidisciplinary mix that general job boards are poorly equipped to reach. The strongest robotics candidates are often embedded in research groups, defence programmes or advanced manufacturing environments, and move between roles through specialist networks and industry events rather than mainstream platforms. This guide, published by RoboticsJobs.co.uk, covers where to advertise robotics roles in the UK in 2026, how the main platforms compare, what employers should expect to pay, and what the data says about hiring across different role types.
